Position Overview

We are seeking an Assistive Technology Support Specialist to become a vital part of our organization. This role is designed for a proactive and dedicated individual who possesses:

  • proficiency in delivering technical assistance via phone, remote access, and in-person for various operating systems including Windows, iOS, and Android, and
  • a passion for, and ideally experience in, collaborating with individuals with diverse disabilities and facilitating their use of Assistive Technology (AT) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) tools.

Key Responsibilities

Based in our office, the successful candidate will:

  • oversee the setup and upkeep of all assessment, client, and complimentary stock equipment.
  • deliver technical support through various channels including phone, remote assistance, and face-to-face interactions.
  • travel as necessary to fulfill responsibilities across the designated region.

Ace Centre is a recognized charity dedicated to providing a variety of Assistive Technology (AT) and Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) services for individuals with communication and physical challenges, as well as their support networks.

We operate from multiple regional offices and have established partnerships to deliver AAC services effectively across our service areas.

This position involves supporting clients in various environments and may require travel and occasional overnight stays.

Job Duties

  • Receive and verify incoming client and assessment equipment deliveries, ensuring they are in proper condition and correspond with the relevant purchase orders.
  • Update the client database for incoming equipment and appropriately label assets.
  • Address messages and work orders assigned in the client database, either to the individual technician or the technical team.
  • Prepare client equipment for distribution as specified by clinicians and complete the quality assurance checklist.
  • Provide technical support for inquiries related to client equipment, ensuring availability of the support desk during operational hours.
  • Offer face-to-face technical assistance both in the office and in clients' daily environments when necessary.
  • Maintain and update assessment equipment with the latest software and updates, ensuring all devices are fully operational.
  • Keep the client equipment room and assessment equipment area organized and assist clinicians with equipment management.
  • Support the installation and retrieval of client devices as directed.
  • Manage the reconditioning and sanitization of returned client devices, ensuring compliance with data protection regulations.
  • Conduct necessary testing on assessment and client equipment.
  • Contribute to the creation and maintenance of an operational manual detailing the procedures required for the role.

Qualifications

Required

  • Relevant higher education qualification or equivalent experience in computer, software, or electronic engineering.

Preferred

  • Training in Assistive Technology or Augmentative and Alternative Communication.

Skills and Knowledge

Required

  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with a diverse range of individuals.

  • Time management and task prioritization abilities.
  • Technical troubleshooting skills.
  • Capability to implement systems for managing technical resources.
  • Valid driver's license and access to a vehicle with appropriate insurance.

  • Familiarity with various Assistive Technology and AAC resources, including specific applications.
  • Experience in managing short-term equipment loans.
  • Understanding of relevant legislative and policy requirements for equipment management.
