Commis Chef - Barnstaple, EnglandAbout the Role

We are seeking an experienced Commis Chef to join our team at Holroyd Howe, a leading contract caterer providing fresh, innovative food services to independent schools and colleges.

The successful candidate will have a background in exceptional food catering services and a passion for creating flavourful dishes that nourish both body and mind.

As a Commis Chef, you will collaborate with our culinary team to craft menus that meet the company's standards and client expectations.

You will be responsible for assisting the Head Chef in all aspects of food preparation, production, and service, ensuring the quality and presentation of all dishes meet the company's standards and client expectations.

Additionally, you will supervise and train kitchen assistants, ensuring adherence to food safety and sanitation procedures, and assist in menu planning and development.

We are looking for a team player who is passionate about food and service, with excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and the ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure in a high-volume kitchen environment.

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Head Chef in food preparation, production, and service
  • Ensure quality and presentation of dishes meet company standards and client expectations
  • Supervise and train kitchen assistants
  • Assist in menu planning and development
  • Collaborate with the catering team to execute special events and themed dinners
  • Maintain a clean and organized kitchen environment
  • Stay updated on industry trends and culinary techniques

Requirements

  • Previous experience working in a similar role within a contract catering company or educational institution
  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards and best practices
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required
