Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive pharmacy technician with expertise in medication management to become a part of the Specialist Medicine team at Barts Health. The successful candidate will primarily operate within the Royal London Hospital while also providing support at other affiliated hospitals.

Your role will involve assisting the Royal London Pharmacy department and the Specialist Medicine Division in delivering exceptional pharmaceutical care to patients, ensuring the safe and efficient distribution of medications, training staff, and conducting governance and financial assessments of medication use.

Main Responsibilities

As a key member of the Specialist Medicine Team (covering Rheumatology, Dermatology, and Gastroenterology), you will ensure optimal pharmaceutical care for patients, oversee the secure and effective supply of medications, provide training for staff, and engage in governance and financial evaluations of medication practices. This includes:

  • Supporting the supply and technical review of medication monitoring.
  • Direct interaction with patients.
  • Liaising with home care providers.
  • Generating financial reports.

Education & Qualifications

Essential Criteria

  • BTEC in Pharmaceutical Sciences / NVQ Level 3 in Pharmacy Services, or equivalent.
  • Registered with the GPhC as a Pharmacy Technician.
  • Accuracy Checking Pharmacy Technician (ACPT) qualification.

Desirable Criteria

  • HEE LaSE Medicines Optimisation qualification or equivalent.

Experience

Essential Criteria

  • Post-qualification experience in a hospital environment.
  • Experience in staff education and training.
  • Dispensing experience.
  • Familiarity with pharmacy labeling and stock control systems.
  • Experience in providing outpatient/day case medication management services.
  • Patient counseling experience.

Desirable Criteria

  • Experience with medications used in Specialist Medicine.
  • Evidence of successful design and implementation of new supply processes.
  • Management experience.

Skills

  • Proficient in IT and Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, capable of presenting complex and sensitive information clearly.
