Job Description: Support and Advocacy for Children with Learning Disabilities and Autism

We are seeking a dedicated and passionate individual to join our team as a Support and Advocacy Specialist. This role will play a vital part in amplifying the voices of children and young people with learning disabilities, autism, or both, ensuring their needs are met and their rights are respected.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead user/family-centered initiatives to empower children and families within our healthcare system.
  • Develop and implement effective communication strategies to engage with stakeholders, including children, families, clinicians, and policymakers.
  • Champion the needs of children and young people with learning disabilities and autism by advocating for their inclusion and participation in all aspects of care.
  • Prepare comprehensive reports and presentations that effectively communicate key findings and recommendations to diverse audiences.
Essential Skills and Experience:
  • Demonstrated experience in communications, stakeholder engagement, and advocacy for children with learning disabilities and autism.
  • Exceptional report writing and presentation skills, with the ability to convey complex information clearly and concisely.
  • Strong analytical and judgmental skills, including the ability to challenge issues related to stigma, discrimination, and non-recovery focused practices in a respectful manner.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to build trust and confidence with children, families, and colleagues.
Desirable Skills and Experience:
  • Experience in analyzing and interpreting complex information to identify trends and develop solutions.
  • Knowledge of relevant legislation and policies related to the care of children with learning disabilities and autism.
