Night Operations Team Leader

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire, United Kingdom Sainsbury's Full time

Position Overview

The Night Operations Team Leader role is an excellent opportunity for those looking to enhance their leadership capabilities while guiding a dedicated management team. You will have defined responsibilities, achievable goals, and robust support. This role allows you to develop your coaching skills while ensuring exceptional service for both customers and colleagues.

Your background in leadership can come from any customer-centric sector, not just Food Retail. We value diverse experiences to cultivate a management team that functions effectively throughout the store. Therefore, if you lack specific technical expertise, your commitment to achieving success through your team and your passion for customer engagement are what truly matter.

Key Responsibilities

Our mission is to serve every customer with dedication and enthusiasm, driven by our love for food.

In this role, you will oversee one of our most dynamic and intricate stores, reporting directly to the Store Manager while leading a team of managers. The environment is fast-paced, and each day presents new challenges. You may not always have immediate solutions, but by addressing short-term issues and implementing medium-term strategies, you will empower your team to maintain high performance.

Our Night Operations teams are essential for ensuring our stores are prepared for the first customers of the day. They are responsible for restocking shelves, managing warehouse deliveries, and assisting with overnight online orders. As a leader, you will maintain communication with the daytime leadership team to stay informed about ongoing plans and priorities, ensuring everything is ready for our colleagues and customers in the morning.
We understand that night shifts may not suit everyone, which is why we offer an additional annual premium for eligible night management positions.

Specifically, your role will involve setting the strategic direction for your area over the next 1-3 months.

Defining Success

There is much to learn in this position. Each day will contribute to enhancing your leadership skills and acquiring new ones. Here’s how:

  • You will coach, motivate, and guide your managers to collaborate effectively, enhancing their skills and leading them through transitions.
  • You will excel at helping your team empathize with customers, taking pride in delivering superior service and identifying opportunities for improvement.
  • You will lead through effective communication, clearly conveying performance metrics and inspiring enhancements for the present and future.
  • You will confidently prioritize tasks and energize your team throughout the night.
  • You will develop your expertise in operations and serve as a role model for your team.
  • You will make prompt decisions and feel empowered to manage your area of the store, including acting on behalf of the Store Manager when necessary.

About You

You may currently be managing a smaller supermarket or convenience store, or you might be in a team leadership position seeking a new challenge. Whether you are transitioning from another retail environment or returning after a career break, your ability to make a positive impact and enjoy teamwork is what counts.

What is most important is your motivation to grow, your dedication to fostering the best in others, and your passion for customer service, which is the core of our operations.

Career Advancement

As a Lead Manager, you could progress to a Deputy Store Manager or Store Manager role. Additionally, you may find opportunities for leadership challenges within our head office or across the Sainsbury's family, including Habitat, Tu, Argos, Sainsbury's Bank, and Nectar 360. We are committed to maximizing your potential.

Benefits

Your salary will reflect your experience, as well as the store's size, complexity, and location. In addition, we offer a comprehensive range of benefits for our managers, including:

  • A premium for working nights, where eligible.
  • A 4-night work week for full-time night managers.
  • A discount card providing 10% off shopping at Sainsbury's, Argos, Tu, and Habitat after four weeks, increasing to 15% on specific days.
  • Complimentary food and hot beverages for colleagues in all stores.
  • Generous holiday entitlement, maternity, and paternity leave.
  • Pension contributions matched at 4-7%.
  • A share scheme allowing you to build an investment at discounted rates.
  • Access to wellbeing support, including emotional assistance, counseling, and financial advice.
  • Opportunities to connect with like-minded colleagues through our networks.
  • A Cycle to Work scheme for hiring bikes and equipment while saving on taxes.
  • Special offers on gym memberships, dining, vacations, retail vouchers, and more.
