Position Overview

The Department of Psychology at the University of Cambridge is seeking a dedicated Research Laboratory Technician to oversee the operations of two collaborative research facilities on a full-time basis. This role is integral to supporting the research endeavors of esteemed Professors Jeff Dalley and Rebecca Lawson, focusing on essential neurobiological studies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Coordinate fundamental research activities involving brain histological tissue preparation and high-resolution microscopy.
  • Facilitate neurochemical assays and gene expression investigations within the central nervous system.
  • Provide comprehensive administrative and technical support to ensure the efficient functioning of both laboratories.
  • Manage lab equipment usage and maintain essential documentation and processes.
  • Offer technical training and support to researchers and students utilizing laboratory equipment.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication skills, strong organizational abilities, and proficiency in IT. A background in histology, particularly immunohistochemistry, is essential, along with familiarity with Microsoft Excel, Word, and statistical applications such as SPSS. The ability to quickly learn new processes and techniques is also crucial.
