Position Overview

An opportunity has emerged for a trainee ward administrator role within the Surgical Assessment Unit. Ideal candidates should demonstrate a strong work ethic, efficiency, the ability to prioritize tasks, and excellent communication capabilities.

Important Note:

Please refrain from applying if you currently possess the Business Administrator Level 3 qualification or its equivalent.

This apprenticeship role offers the potential for long-term employment upon successful completion of the training program. Throughout the apprenticeship, you will work towards fulfilling the competencies outlined in the personal specification while actively engaging in the role. Comprehensive training will be provided weekly by our dedicated team of tutors and trainers during contracted working hours.

Entry Requirements for Apprenticeship:

Prior to the end-point assessment, candidates must achieve Level 2 functional skills in English and Mathematics, or an equivalent qualification. If these qualifications are not already obtained, classroom instruction will be available. Ensure that you include your English and Mathematics qualifications on your application form, as failure to do so may result in not being shortlisted.

The business administrator apprenticeship typically spans up to 21 months, including the end-point assessment. For further details regarding the apprenticeship standard, please refer to the relevant documentation.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will work with minimal supervision as part of a multi-disciplinary team, providing clerical support to nursing staff at the ward level. It is essential to approach interactions with patients and their families with sensitivity and tact.

A responsible mindset is necessary to manage the unpredictable nature of ward activities, utilizing prioritization skills and discretion to organize daily workloads according to deadlines and urgency levels.

Responsibilities will include welcoming patients upon arrival, scheduling appointments, dispatching appointment letters and patient information, responding to telephone inquiries regarding appointments, and performing additional tasks to support the service provided by the team.

Proficiency in computer usage is required to operate our automated appointment system effectively.

Qualifications

Essential:

  • GCSE Level 4 in Mathematics and English or equivalent (Functional Skills Level 2)

Experience

Essential:

  • Previous clerical experience
  • Strong communication skills and evidence of customer service experience

Desirable:

  • Experience in a clerical or ward clerk role within the NHS
  • Familiarity with NHS computer systems, including IPM / Unity
