Advanced Practitioner in Acute Oncology Care

West Bromwich, Sandwell, United Kingdom Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

Are you dedicated to enhancing cancer care? Do you possess a dynamic and empathetic approach along with exceptional communication abilities? Are you eager to pursue a career in Advanced Practice?

With the establishment of a new acute healthcare facility, we are seeking to broaden our Advanced Practice-led Acute Oncology Service. This is a pivotal moment to become part of our team, whether as a qualified Advanced Practitioner or as a trainee. The service will transition to a front-facing model, collaborating closely with the emergency department and Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC) to ensure that patients presenting with Acute Oncology issues receive the highest quality of timely care through specialized input upon arrival.

Key Responsibilities

Your role will involve providing expert input for patients experiencing complications related to their cancer or its treatment. While the primary focus will be at the front door, responsibilities will also encompass ward assessments and support for the chemotherapy day unit. The Acute Oncology Service serves as a vital link between our organization and the patients' cancer treatment centers.

Once fully trained and qualified, you will be expected to accurately evaluate and manage complex patient presentations to a high professional standard.

Strong communication skills are essential for discussing patient care with a diverse range of multidisciplinary team members, including the patients' primary consultant teams.

Collaborate with a dedicated Acute Oncology Team to ensure optimal care for our patients.

About Our Organization

Sandwell and West Birmingham NHS Trust is an integrated healthcare provider with a substantial budget and a workforce exceeding 7,000 staff members. Our commitment to diversity and social care is fundamental to our mission, as we deliver both Community and Acute Services to a large urban population facing significant health challenges.

Our new acute hospital is set to provide exceptional care to the local community from state-of-the-art facilities. The base of this role may evolve as the new hospital develops, and you will be informed during the recruitment process about any changes relevant to your position.

We are guided by three emerging strategic objectives:

  • Our People: To foster a supportive and engaged workforce.
  • Our Patients: To excel in all aspects of patient care.
  • Our Population: To collaborate effectively with partners to enhance community health.
