Position: SEN Coordinator

Hours: 40 hours per week

This specialist educational institution is recognized for its commitment to providing tailored support for students with diverse needs.

We cater to young individuals aged 11-19 facing complex challenges, including autism, moderate to severe learning disabilities, and communication difficulties.

We are currently in search of a qualified SEN Coordinator to enhance our dedicated team.

Key Responsibilities:


1. Oversee educational practices to ensure they align with the requirements of students with special educational needs (SEN) and maintain accurate records for reviews and reporting.
2. Collaborate with other educational establishments to guarantee seamless transitions for SEN students.
3. Advocate for exemplary practices and contribute to the institution's mission through professional development for new educators.

4. Establish objectives aimed at improving outcomes for all students.
5. Gather and present assessment data, sharing insights with staff and external professionals as necessary.
6. Develop systems for identifying, reviewing, and monitoring student needs, including leading Annual Reviews for Education, Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
7. Provide updates to the Senior Leadership Team (SLT) regarding the effectiveness of SEN provisions.
8. Engage with parents to discuss their child's progress through individual consultations and school events.

9. Ensure that all staff members are aware of their responsibilities towards SEN students.
10. Offer training sessions for teaching assistants and educators on SEN, including whole-school professional development.
11. Share effective practices in SEN throughout the institution.

12. Identify necessary resources to support SEN students and recommend budget allocations to the SLT.

13. Collaborate with the SLT on the strategic advancement of SEN, including policy formulation and review.
14. Stay informed about advancements in SEN, including research and legislative updates.
15. Attend relevant training, professional development, and conferences, providing insights to colleagues.
16. Lead professional development sessions on SEN as required across the institution.
17. Conduct self-evaluations of SEN practices, contributing to the institution's Self-Evaluation Framework (SEF) and Quality Improvement Plan.
18. Participate in the broader activities and responsibilities of this vibrant educational community.

Qualifications:
1. PGCE, QTS, or equivalent teaching qualification with evidence of ongoing professional development.
2. Relevant expertise and understanding of students with SEN and the SEND Code of Practice.
3. Knowledge of safeguarding principles and child protection protocols.
4. Experience in managing various behavioral approaches, including those for challenging behaviors.
