Role Overview:
The primary aim of this role is to assist in meeting the educational, social, and developmental requirements of students in Key Stage 2, working closely with the class teacher and other senior staff.
Main Responsibilities:
- Classroom Assistance:
- Collaborate with the class teacher to plan and implement educational activities.
- Provide support to students in small groups or individually as needed.
- Help maintain a conducive learning environment by managing classroom behavior.
- Prepare and organize instructional materials and resources.
- Assist in evaluating students' work and tracking their progress.
- Student Support:
- Foster the emotional and social growth of students, creating a safe and positive learning space.
- Assist students with additional needs, including those with special educational requirements, ensuring their participation in learning activities.
- Supervise students during breaks, lunch periods, and school excursions.
- Promote positive behavior and respect among students, adhering to the school's behavior policies.
- Administrative Duties:
- Keep accurate records of students' progress and any incidents.
- Help prepare classroom displays and maintain an organized classroom environment.
- Provide clerical support to the teacher, including photocopying, filing, and record maintenance.
- Communication:
- Engage with parents, guardians, and other professionals regarding students' progress and any concerns.
- Participate in staff meetings and contribute to school events and initiatives.
- Communicate effectively with students, offering clear instructions and constructive feedback.
- Professional Growth:
- Attend relevant training sessions and professional development opportunities.
- Stay updated on current educational practices and policies.
- Reflect on personal performance and set goals for improvement.
- Health and Safety:
- Ensure the safety and well-being of students at all times.
- Adhere to school policies and procedures regarding health and safety, safeguarding, and child protection.
- Report any concerns related to student welfare to the appropriate staff member.
Qualifications and Skills:
- Essential:
- GCSEs (or equivalent) in English and Mathematics.
- Relevant experience in an educational setting working with children.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team.
- Desirable:
- Teaching Assistant qualification (e.g., Level 2 or 3 Certificate in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools).
- Experience with children with special educational needs.
- First Aid certification.
- Familiarity with the Key Stage 2 curriculum.
