About the Role:

The Special Educational Needs Coordinator (SENCO) will play a vital role in the senior leadership team, overseeing the strategic development and implementation of special educational needs (SEN) policy and provision in the school.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Determine the strategic development of SEN policy and provision in the school, in liaison with the Head Teacher.
  • Have excellent knowledge of the curriculum and SEND Code of Practice.
  • Successfully complete the National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordination.
  • Be responsible for the day-to-day operation of the SEN policy and coordination of specific provision to support individual pupils with SEN.
  • Line manage the Assistant SENCO.
  • Ensure that all safeguarding and child protection matters arising at the school are dealt with effectively, under the guidance of the Lead DSL.
  • Lead the work of the school Learning Mentors.
  • Lead the development and implementation of the Nurture and mental health and wellbeing provision.
  • Provide professional guidance to colleagues, working closely with staff, parents, and other agencies.
