Role Overview

Objective
This position is designed for the candidate to evolve into a vital member of the ICE team within the Propulsion department. The individual will be tasked with managing a project under the guidance of a Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Manager, with the expectation of growing into a more autonomous role handling increasingly complex projects as customer needs evolve.

Key Responsibilities

  • Adhere to all health and safety and quality protocols.
  • Achieve engineering targets set by the Senior Engineer, Principal Engineer, or Engineering Manager.
  • Create engine installation documentation and schematics for precise test bed configurations.
  • Detect engine/test delivery issues and collaborate with colleagues to devise effective solutions.
  • Process and validate engine testing data.
  • Analyze engine data to identify trends and potential concerns.
  • Provide support to team members to meet broader objectives.
  • Monitor project efficiency and manage project-related invoicing.
  • Initiate and lead efforts to minimize waste and enhance efficiency.
  • Participate actively in regular updates with customers.
  • Uphold the expected conduct for UTAC personnel at all times.

Required Qualifications

  • HND or Degree in Automotive/Mechanical Engineering.
  • Relevant experience in testbed operations may substitute for formal qualifications.

Experience Requirements

  • Minimum of 2 years in an automotive engineering role.
  • Experience with test beds in an automotive testing context.
  • Strong understanding of gasoline and diesel engine mechanical principles.
  • Familiarity with instrumentation (thermocouples, pressure transducers, etc.).
  • Ability to develop test automation procedures and schedules to maximize automated operations.
  • Collaborate closely with customer engineering teams to implement test programs.
  • Experience with a variety of engine types is advantageous (Petrol, Diesel, High Performance, Heavy Duty, Alternative Fuels).

Skill Set

  • Knowledge of engine fundamentals and material properties.
  • Understanding of electrical and mechanical engine diagnostics.
  • Proficient in using engine test cell equipment and software, including engine dynos, instrumentation, and calibration tools.
  • Familiarity with emissions measurement equipment is a plus.
  • Experience with AVL Puma, Horiba STARS, and/or Kratzer PATools test automation systems is preferred; knowledge of other automation systems will also be considered.
  • Ability to interpret, critique, and present data using Excel and/or AVL Concerto.
  • Competence in drafting formal reports following UTAC's standard templates.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Strong verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.

  • Willingness to travel as required.
  • Valid UK driving license and access to personal transport.
