Key Responsibilities

We are seeking a proactive registered nurse or operating department practitioner to become a member of our esteemed urology theatre team at Royal Berkshire Hospital.

Our team was among the pioneers of robotic-assisted surgery in 2007 and received a Royal Berkshire Staff Excellence Award in 2020 for operational excellence.

This position is suitable for both newly qualified and experienced practitioners. You will work alongside a talented team.

In our Theatres, we foster a supportive learning atmosphere that includes preceptorship and supernumerary status while achieving competencies, along with additional support during the initial phase of independent work.

We provide an in-house perioperative course, assistance with revalidation, leadership training, and career development opportunities.

Job Duties

  • Perform scrub duties.
  • Assist team members in preparing and cleaning all areas.
  • Assess, implement, and evaluate patient needs to ensure high-quality care delivery.
  • Collaborate with medical staff and the multidisciplinary theatre team to maintain high standards of patient care and ensure accurate documentation in line with Trust policy.
  • Establish and maintain effective communication with patients, their families, medical staff, and other departments to enhance theatre service provision.
  • Participate in the orientation, supervision, teaching, and development of junior staff.
  • Contribute to the formulation of procedures, policies, and standards, and engage in clinical and organizational audits to enhance service quality.
  • Support the effective operation of the specialty through active participation in the clinical team, accepting designated responsibilities for specific tasks.
  • Maintain the highest standards of care and safety for patients, visitors, and staff in the operating suite, ensuring compliance with Trust policies and legal requirements.
  • Uphold public trust and confidence in the Trust, enhancing the reputation of patient care.
  • Stay updated on new clinical techniques and procedures, engage in research projects to support clinical practice, and seize opportunities to enhance knowledge and professional competence.
  • Undertake Theatre Practitioner duties in other specialties and departments as required by service needs.
  • Participate in the Theatres out-of-hours on-call rota as necessary.
