Position Overview

Band 6 Lead Surgical Nurse (General Surgical Unit and Surgical Assessment Unit)

We are seeking a dedicated, skilled, and experienced Lead Surgical Nurse who is passionate about delivering high-quality, evidence-based patient care.

The General Surgical Unit (GSU) is recognized for its commitment to excellence, having been the first ward within our organization to achieve accreditation for consistently providing outstanding patient care and staff support.

This unit accommodates 40-60 beds, catering to both emergency and planned elective surgical cases. Additionally, we have an enhanced care unit with 4 beds designated for more complex surgical patients.

The Surgical Assessment Unit (SAU) operates as part of GSU, offering immediate access for patients to the multidisciplinary team specializing in general surgery.

Referrals to our unit come from various sources, including general practitioners, the emergency department, outpatient clinics, and directly from patients post-discharge.

We provide a skill-based rotation between GSU and the Surgical Assessment Unit, fostering a comprehensive learning environment.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a Registered Nurse with extensive surgical expertise. Your leadership will play a crucial role in our mission to deliver patient-centered care with compassion and respect, aligning with our organizational values.

Your transition into this new role will be supported by a dedicated mentor and team leader, ensuring you receive the guidance and assistance necessary for success.

A vital aspect of this position will involve implementing changes and enhancing patient care within the ward setting.

Job Responsibilities

As a skilled practitioner, you will be responsible for delivering patient-focused care programs that address the complex and evolving health needs of our client group in your clinical area.

You will ensure the efficient operation of the ward or department in the absence of the Ward Sister/Charge Nurse, providing both clinical and managerial leadership to nursing and support staff.
