Job Overview

We are excited to present a remarkable opportunity for Registered Paramedics to become a vital part of our Emergency Department.

In the role of Registered Paramedic, you will collaborate within a multi-disciplinary team in the Emergency Department. Operating within a defined scope of practice, your responsibilities will encompass various areas, including but not limited to Ambulance Assessment, Streaming, Initial Assessment (FIT), and Resuscitation. You will assume clinical accountability for a designated group of patients, working in partnership with medical and nursing personnel in your area. Your duties will include conducting clinical assessments, diagnostics, and delivering prescribed clinical care aligned with your Paramedic skill set. You will also share your Paramedic expertise with the broader team and provide leadership and support to junior staff. Additionally, you may lead specific areas of the department upon request and delegate care responsibilities to other Healthcare Professionals and Senior Healthcare Assistants, ensuring the maintenance of high standards and quality in emergency care.

Candidate Profile:

  • HCPC Registered Paramedic with experience in emergency care settings.
  • Completion of the National Newly Qualified Paramedic (NQP) Programme, including a portfolio and completion certificate.
  • Possession of a FdSc/DipHE or BSc (Hons) in Paramedic Science (IHCD Paramedics must hold a FdSc/Dip HE and/or BSc/BSc (Hons) or higher in post studies).
  • Confidence in providing care for patients with emergency care needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Operate within designated areas of the emergency department, including but not limited to Ambulance Assessment, Streaming, Initial Assessment (FIT), and Resuscitation.
  • Provide leadership within your designated area.
  • Conduct clinical assessments based on emergency presentations.
  • Complete risk assessments to inform patient care.
  • Deliver and evaluate emergency care interventions.
  • Administer medications safely via various routes in accordance with prescriptions.
  • Perform diagnostics within your scope of practice.
  • Undertake venepuncture, cannulation, and arterial blood gases (once competent).
  • Accurately document care provided.
  • Recognize patient deterioration and escalate concerns to medical/nursing colleagues.
  • Collaborate effectively with the multi-disciplinary team.
  • Implement treatment and discharge plans in partnership with patients and their families.
  • Exemplify the Trust values.
  • Support resuscitation efforts upon request.
  • Act as a clinical escort for inter-facility transfers, upon request.
  • Provide personal and holistic care, promoting comfort, pressure area care, and continence.
  • Share Paramedic expertise within the team.
  • Mentor junior staff, students, and apprentices within the Emergency Department.
  • Delegate care responsibilities to Senior Healthcare Assistants.
