Key Responsibilities

Our team is small yet welcoming, specializing in both Respiratory and Sleep Physiology. In this position, you will collaborate closely with Respiratory Consultants and the Head of Department to ensure the efficient operation of the Respiratory Physiology service.

You will also contribute to the growth of our personnel and services by providing ongoing training and upholding high standards of practice. This is a unique opportunity to leverage your expertise to advance the Respiratory Physiology service in alignment with the NHS recovery strategy.

Your responsibilities will also include assisting the team in delivering the Sleep Service, which encompasses participation in sleep study evaluations and the administration of CPAP therapy.

About Our Organization

This position is situated within the Lancashire Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, which delivers services across multiple hospital sites. The role will necessitate travel between various locations.

Our Respiratory team is an integral part of the 'Lancashire Chest Centre,' providing specialized services across several sub-disciplines of Respiratory and Sleep Medicine. You will be joining a vibrant team that includes 15 Respiratory Consultants across our hospital network.

Job Duties

You will play a crucial role in the provision of the Respiratory Physiology Service at our facilities, with guidance from the Head of Department. Your involvement will be essential in the daily operations of both sleep and respiratory physiology services. This includes setting up and analyzing home sleep studies, initiating and monitoring CPAP therapy, and conducting comprehensive lung function assessments.

Additionally, you will be instrumental in quality assurance and the training of junior staff members.

The ideal candidate must be proficient in a full spectrum of respiratory assessments, including spirometry, diffusion capacity testing, plethysmography, bronchial challenge tests, exercise testing, and sleep disorder evaluations, and should be eager to further develop these services.

You should be self-driven, well-organized, and possess excellent interpersonal abilities. A flexible approach and willingness to travel between sites are essential.

Qualifications

Required

  • Degree in Clinical Physiology, Healthcare Science, or a related field
  • Registered with RCCP or HCPC
  • Experience in training and mentoring junior staff
  • STP or equivalent experience
  • Evidence of ongoing professional development

Preferred

  • ARTP Part 1 and 2 certifications
  • Leadership and management training (ILM)
  • Mentorship qualification
  • Sleep-specific qualification (RPSGT)

Knowledge & Experience

Required

  • Significant experience in a Respiratory Physiology or Sleep Department
  • Ability to operate independently within established protocols
  • Competence in all aspects of Pulmonary Function Testing

Preferred

  • Demonstrated experience in service development
  • Evidence of research participation
  • Competence in all aspects of Sleep diagnostics and CPAP therapy initiation and follow-up
