Position Overview

We are seeking applications for the role of Senior Clinical Fellow in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation at Cambridge University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

Role Objectives

This position is designed to enhance a career in Hepatology and Liver Transplantation. It is open to candidates who are currently in or have completed Gastroenterology/Hepatology training and are interested in one of the following:

(1) Engaging in preliminary research prior to securing external funding for a higher degree; or

(2) Taking time away from their program to focus on a clinical specialty; or

(3) Seeking post-CCT experience in advanced Hepatology and Liver Transplantation.

Please be aware that this position does not have Postgraduate Dean's approval or training recognition.

A valid Full Registration and a Licence to Practice with the General Medical Council is required upon commencement.

About the Institution

Candidates must demonstrate proficiency in English, including listening, reading, writing, and speaking, to effectively communicate medical information with patients and colleagues, as outlined in the GMC's Good Medical Practice. Non-UK applicants must complete the IELTS/OET exam prior to obtaining a GMC licence to practice.

Key Responsibilities

The position may be extended based on satisfactory progress, particularly for those engaged in research. Candidates interested in utilizing this role as a precursor for research should investigate potential projects available and reach out to the relevant project leads. Detailed information can be found on our website. Applicants intending to pursue research will not be considered without a defined project.

A variety of learning opportunities are available, tailored to the applicant's interests. These may include Tertiary Hepatology, Liver Transplantation, Research, or Management (chief residency program). The department is involved in basic, translational, and clinical research in areas such as alcoholic hepatitis, HCC, NASH, cholangiocyte biology, and PBC in collaboration with the University of Cambridge and the Cambridge NIHR Biomedical Research Centre. Successful candidates will also participate in the Hepatology on-call rota.

These positions are typically not accredited as part of a specialty training program but can be utilized for the purposes mentioned above.
