Position Overview

The appointed candidate will be:

  • Engaged as a proficient Advanced Clinical Care Practitioner (ACCP), providing patient-focused care with significant independence, conducting assessments and making clinical decisions in accordance with the standards set by the relevant professional regulatory bodies and their defined scope of practice.
  • Expected to meet the core competencies of an ACCP as outlined in the Multi-professional Framework for Advanced Clinical Practice, delivering autonomous clinical services across the four domains of advanced practice, while fostering a culture of continuous learning and professional growth through active participation in clinical supervision and maintaining a comprehensive professional portfolio.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with patients, families, and multidisciplinary team members to effectively address the needs and welfare of patients, providing high-quality, evidence-based care within the realm of Paediatric Critical Care and Retrieval services. The practitioner will be required to exhibit expertise across the four domains of Advanced Clinical Practice: Clinical, Leadership and Management, Education, and Research.
  • Operate at an advanced level, utilizing a broad spectrum of knowledge and clinical skills, engaging in complex decision-making to identify necessary evidence-based therapeutic interventions. This may occur across various healthcare settings as part of the retrieval service.
  • As a qualified ACCP in Paediatric Critical Care, the practitioner must demonstrate the ability to work independently, ensuring safe and effective practice as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Lead a team in the resuscitation, stabilization, and transfer of critically ill children, executing high-level clinical or technical skills and procedures essential for the care of paediatric patients.
  • Recognize, evaluate, and manage a comprehensive range of medical and surgical paediatric conditions requiring intensive care support, including addressing safeguarding concerns within this context.

Paediatric Critical Care Services encompass a range of critical care beds, delivering specialized services to a diverse patient population. The unit is recognized as a leading center for neurosurgery and major trauma, with a wide array of medical and surgical specialties. The department is currently experiencing a transformative phase of development and investment.

Retrieval Services include collaborative efforts with other healthcare institutions, ensuring a 24/7 retrieval team is available to provide critical care support.

Education and Training are facilitated through a structured competency-based development program, with opportunities for career advancement available for Advanced Clinical Practitioners.

Candidate Requirements

Applicants must be registered healthcare professionals with substantial experience in Paediatric Critical Care. They should possess a completed master's program in Advanced Nursing Practice or a related field, along with evidence of advanced practice capabilities through a professional portfolio. Candidates nearing completion of their advanced practice training may also be considered.

Essential Qualifications

  • Registered Healthcare Professional (NMC, HCPC, or GPhC)
  • First-level degree in a relevant healthcare profession
  • Master’s degree in Advanced Practice or equivalent
  • Specialized post-graduate education or training relevant to Paediatric Critical Care
  • Advanced Paediatric Life Support certification
