Position Overview

We invite applications for the role of Research Fellow in Adult Inherited Metabolic Medicine (IMD) for a two-year term, with the potential for an additional year for candidates interested in pursuing a PhD. This fellowship offers an exceptional opportunity for senior trainees in Metabolic Medicine from the UK, EU, or abroad to enhance their research and clinical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

The fellow will engage with the inherited metabolic disorders service, which emphasizes a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach. The role includes close collaboration with various departments such as Cardiology, Neurology, Liver, Pathology, Radiology, Renal, and Respiratory Medicine. Depending on individual research and specialty interests, the post-holder will have the opportunity to participate in IMD clinics. The position provides ample chances to acquire skills relevant to training in IMD sub-specialties, including lysosomal storage disorders, Alstrom syndrome, and rare lipid and bone disorders.

Job Duties

Over the course of three years, the successful candidate is expected to complete a PhD while gaining research experience in collaboration with the Institute of Metabolism and System Research. The goal is to contribute to high-impact peer-reviewed publications. The appointee will work full-time in research while being encouraged to develop clinical skills. There is no on-call requirement associated with this position.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential Qualifications

  • MBBS or an equivalent UK-recognized qualification.
  • MRCP or an equivalent qualification.

Essential Experience

  • Currently working as a Senior Registrar in the relevant specialty.
  • A strong commitment to pursuing research in the future.
