Background

The Centre for Human Brain Health (CHBH) at the University of Birmingham is engaged in ground-breaking research in the field of human electrophysiology. As we aim to broaden our horizons and delve deeper into the secrets of the human brain, we are looking for an enthusiastic and skilled postdoctoral research fellow to join our Neuronal Oscillations group. Dr. Ole Jensen leads this group, which is dedicated to studying the complex dynamics of the human brain through the analysis of neuronal dynamics. Our research is characterized by a strong commitment to innovation and the use of the latest brain imaging tools. Our Centre is equipped with cutting-edge technology, such as the MEGIN MEG system, OPM facilities, and a Siemens 3T MR system. We take pride in our collaborative, inclusive, and dynamic environment, where dedicated researchers work together to address fundamental questions in cognitive neuroscience.

Role Summary

This job opening is for a research fellow who will contribute to a collaborative project focused on attention and reading. The main objective of the project is to study the neural mechanisms underlying the human visual system during reading and the development in children. To achieve this, we will use electrophysiological techniques (MEG and OPM), MRI, and theoretical models to investigate the neural signatures of visual attention and reading. The postdoctoral researcher will primarily be responsible for developing reading paradigms to be used with MEG and OPM suited for children.

The research fellow will also be responsible for preparing high-quality academic publications, presenting research results at national and international academic conferences, and engaging in public activities. Additionally, the research fellow will supervise students and contribute to the School of Psychology through leadership. This research has the potential to significantly advance our understanding of the cognitive processes of the human brain.
