Position Overview

We invite applications for the role of Research Fellow specializing in cutaneous lymphoma. The selected candidate will be paired with a clinical, educational, or academic mentor and will undergo training in both clinical and translational research related to cutaneous lymphoma over a one-year period. This role offers comprehensive exposure to the multidisciplinary management of cutaneous T-cell lymphoma (CTCL) and involvement in clinical trials, alongside dedicated clinical and translational research projects.

Key Responsibilities

The individual in this position will engage actively in clinical and translational research, collaborating with a multidisciplinary research team to support a robust clinical trials program within the Clinical Research Facility. Responsibilities will include:

1. Becoming a vital member of the cutaneous lymphoma research team, executing both clinical and translational research initiatives.

2. Providing necessary medical support for patients involved in both interventional and non-interventional clinical trials/studies.

3. Contributing to the ongoing enhancement, efficiency, and operational effectiveness of the research team.

4. Ensuring that informed consent is obtained from all study participants prior to any study-related procedures, including sample and data collection, in accordance with research governance protocols.

5. Offering support to the broader research team.

6. Assisting in the publication of research findings and communicating results to the wider community.

Research Responsibilities

The research aspect of this role will involve working within the Cutaneous Lymphoma Service under the guidance of a senior consultant. Comprehensive training will be provided in the clinical evaluation of patients with both early and advanced stages of cutaneous lymphoma, including the assessment of response criteria in mycosis fungoides and Sézary syndrome (MF/SS). The role encompasses participation in all facets of clinical research, including NIHR Portfolio Clinical Trials. The primary focus of clinical and translational research in MF/SS will involve observational prospective trials aimed at identifying prognostic features and translational research projects to discover prognostic biomarkers for treatment response using disease-modifying therapies. Opportunities for complementary laboratory-based research may be available through internal or external collaborations. Additionally, there will be chances to present findings at national and international conferences.

The clinical duties associated with this position will include conducting eight cutaneous lymphoma clinics each month, with regular involvement in bi-monthly multidisciplinary team meetings.

The successful candidate will be encouraged to cultivate their own research interests/projects and to pursue grant applications for additional external funding to support these initiatives or other research endeavors within the unit.
