Bowel Cancer Screening, Nurse Specialist

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Bowel Cancer Screening Centre, which serves a vast population. We are seeking a passionate and dedicated nurse to become a vital member of our screening team. The successful candidate will be stationed at a leading healthcare facility but will be required to operate across various locations.

We are in search of a diligent, adaptable, and committed individual to join our team, delivering top-notch care to all screening participants. Candidates must possess a valid nursing registration. Responsibilities will include supporting the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme in collaboration with the Lead Nurse and team members. The ability to work effectively within a team and independently, managing a personal caseload of patients, is essential. The role involves conducting nurse-led clinics, which includes patient evaluations, providing information, and offering preparation and support for those undergoing endoscopic or radiological assessments within the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.

Key Responsibilities

We are looking for a motivated and enthusiastic team player. The role encompasses a variety of tasks, including:

  • Conducting nurse-led clinics
  • Participating in colonoscopy sessions
  • Processing histology results and communicating findings, including cancer diagnoses
  • Supporting patients throughout the screening journey
  • Engaging in health promotion activities

Excellent communication skills are crucial, as the role involves conveying sensitive and complex information to both patients and colleagues, including delivering significant news. The post holder will share the responsibility of meeting organizational and national targets, prioritizing and managing their workload effectively, and collaborating with the team to ensure the seamless operation of the service. Training will be provided for utilizing the relevant IT systems.

The Bowel Cancer Screening Programme is based at a prominent healthcare facility, but the post holder will be required to travel to other locations as necessary.

While prior experience in screening services, gastroenterology, endoscopy, pre-assessment, or oncology is advantageous, it is not mandatory. Additionally, proficiency in IT is essential, as this position includes daily data entry into a national database. Specialist training will be provided for the Bowel Cancer Screening IT system. Experience in teaching or health promotion is also beneficial but not required.
