Job Overview

This position presents a remarkable opportunity to contribute to the largest ophthalmic unit in the Southeast of England, enhancing expertise in Medical Retina and Uveitis. The role encompasses diverse clinical experiences, including surgical procedures and specialized clinics. Educational sessions are scheduled for Friday afternoons and are led by experienced consultants.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver high-quality care to all patients under your clinical supervision, including those you personally attend to.

- Collaborate closely with medical, professional, and managerial colleagues within and outside the specialty to ensure the provision of excellent healthcare services to patients.

- Actively engage in clinical governance activities and attend designated clinical governance sessions as outlined in the job plan.

- Participate in departmental audits and quality improvement initiatives relevant to your work.

- Assume personal responsibility for risk management in your clinical practice, reflecting on experiences to enhance service delivery.

- Respond promptly and effectively to any patient care-related complaints, supporting the organization’s commitment to timely resolutions.

- Foster and maintain productive working relationships with external agencies involved in health and social care, as well as patient advocacy groups.

- Be prepared to undertake additional duties in emergency situations as directed by the Clinical Director or General Manager.

About Our Organization

The Maidstone & Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust is dedicated to providing comprehensive ophthalmology services to the residents of Mid and West Kent, serving a population of approximately one million. The diverse patient base ensures a wide variety of interesting clinical cases. Services are delivered at the Eye, Ear, and Mouth Unit (EEMU), a state-of-the-art facility connected to Maidstone Hospital, with outpatient services available at various locations.

EEMU features a busy rapid access department (Eye Casualty) equipped with optometric and orthoptic services, alongside day case and inpatient facilities, supported by specialized nursing staff. The departments are outfitted with advanced diagnostic equipment, including digital imaging systems and laser technologies.

- Ensure high standards of patient care for all individuals under your clinical responsibility.

- Engage in clinical activities and service developments aimed at maintaining exceptional patient care standards.

- Collaborate with colleagues across various disciplines to enhance the quality of healthcare services.

- Participate in clinical governance and quality assurance initiatives.

- Adhere to the General Medical Council's guidelines on good medical practice, including the Duties of a Doctor.

- Take an active role in risk management processes and contribute to the overall safety of clinical operations.
