Position Overview

This role is situated within a prominent oncology center, dedicated to delivering exceptional care to patients in the region.

The successful candidate will collaborate with a team of esteemed medical and clinical oncologists, focusing on Breast Oncology and the Acute Oncology/SDEC Service, providing comprehensive oncology services from a designated base. As part of the oncology center, there will be an expectation to engage fully in a collaborative approach to cancer care delivery. This includes participation in governance meetings, multidisciplinary team discussions, and the practice of cross-referral with other specialists.

Key Responsibilities

- Deliver a high standard of care to all patients under your clinical responsibility, including those referred to you and those managed by your team, as well as patients of consultant colleagues during on-call or leave coverage.

- Engage in clinical and service activities aimed at maintaining high standards of patient care across the organization.

- Collaborate closely with medical, professional, and managerial colleagues, both within and outside the specialty, to ensure high-quality healthcare delivery and contribute to strategic planning for the organization.

About the Organization

The Trust has been operational since April 2000, comprising two District General Hospitals that serve a large population in the area.

The major facilities include a state-of-the-art hospital and an oncology center that plays a crucial role in the region's cancer services.

Detailed Responsibilities

- Actively participate in and provide leadership for the clinical governance of the specialty, covering Trust-wide activities.

- Attend clinical governance sessions as outlined in the Trust's guidelines unless on approved leave or attending emergencies.

- Contribute to departmental audits, coordinating audit activities and implementing necessary changes.

- Take an active role in the education and training of undergraduate and postgraduate students.

- Share responsibility with consultant colleagues for the management and professional development of junior medical staff, in line with guidance from the relevant authorities.

- Encourage the integration of research into clinical practice and support the development of research initiatives for interested candidates.

Education Requirements

Essential Qualifications

Full GMC registration FRCR or equivalent

Desirable Qualifications

Higher qualification in Medicine

Experience Requirements

Essential Experience

Comprehensive general medical experience. Oncology experience at SpR or equivalent level.

Desirable Experience

Experience in Clinical Audit and Research Participation in specialist clinics. Ability to take full and independent responsibility for patient care.

Skills Requirements

Essential Skills

Passion for developing tumor site specialization and Cancer Services. Strong organizational and management abilities. Capacity to engage in both clinical and administrative tasks.
