Maidstone, Kent, United Kingdom Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust Full time

Position Overview

An exceptional opportunity has emerged within the Acute Oncology Service at Maidstone and Tunbridge Wells NHS Trust, aimed at enhancing the 7-Day Acute Oncology Service. We are in search of a dedicated, proactive, and empathetic professional to join our Acute Oncology Team.

This role will focus on providing care for patients who are acutely admitted with potential new or existing cancer diagnoses, as well as complications arising from treatment or the disease itself.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will play a pivotal role in delivering expert nursing leadership, collaborating with both nursing and medical teams to ensure a seamless and professional service for oncology patients presenting acutely. This includes a specialization in new diagnoses within an emergency context.

The ideal applicant will possess significant experience, ideally at a senior Band 6 or 7 level, with a robust background in acute medicine, emergency care, and oncology nursing. While prior oncology and SACT experience is preferred, we encourage discussions with interested candidates.

The post holder will be integral to the Acute Oncology Team, working independently to establish and maintain a high-quality, cost-effective Clinical Nurse Specialist service for patients who are acutely unwell and require further investigation and treatment for suspected cancer diagnoses.

Additionally, the role involves collaboration with acute medical teams across multiple hospital sites, contributing to the delivery and assessment of evidence-based patient care throughout the treatment pathway. Responsibilities include:

  • Assessing the clinical and holistic needs of patients.
  • Liaising with the oncology team and multidisciplinary teams to promote coordinated care.
  • Managing and organizing a personal caseload.
  • Participating in administrative tasks associated with the service.

This position will encompass all facets of the patient care pathway, acting as a nurse advisor and providing support to patients and families dealing with cancer of unknown primary, offering essential information and assistance to caregivers in both formal and informal settings.
