Position: Commercial Counsel

Type: Permanent

Location: Reading/Hybrid - 3 days per week onsite

Role Summary:

As a Commercial Counsel, you will deliver expert legal support and strategic guidance to the Sales, Commercial, and Marketing teams within the organization. Your responsibilities will encompass a wide array of commercial matters, including but not limited to contract negotiation, intellectual property, and technology-related issues.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide legal expertise to the Sales and Commercial teams to facilitate customer acquisition and enhance service delivery in the mobile telecommunications sector.
  • Act as the primary legal contact for the Sales, Marketing, and Communications teams, addressing day-to-day legal inquiries and providing general support.
  • Draft and negotiate a variety of legal documents, covering areas such as IT, Marketing, Operations, and general Commercial, while offering insights into business strategies and governance.
  • Proactively identify potential challenges and manage them independently.
  • Handle agreements that include cloud services contracts, infrastructure sharing agreements, NDAs, and master services agreements.
  • Advise colleagues on legal risks and issues associated with specific deals, offering pragmatic solutions to mitigate risks.
  • Support the Marketing and Communications team with relevant legal advice on various matters.
  • Collaborate closely with the Senior Commercial Counsel on contract variations related to key Master Services Agreements.
  • Maintain and enhance the suite of template documents that underpin commercial transactions.
  • Continuously update legal templates in line with evolving legal standards and ensure compliance with customer obligations.
  • Contribute to the improvement of the Legal & Compliance Team's functions through innovative solutions and forward-thinking approaches.
  • Identify opportunities for transformation and develop new solutions, leveraging technology for efficiency.
  • Establish effective relationships with legal suppliers to ensure satisfactory service delivery.
  • Manage daily interactions with legal supplier teams to foster collaboration.

Required Skills:

  • Qualified solicitor with a strong background in commercial law.
  • Extensive experience in commercial contract management.
  • 3-6 years of post-qualification experience in commercial transactions.
  • Experience within a dynamic in-house legal environment.
  • Current practicing certificate as a solicitor.
  • Strong interpersonal and project management capabilities.
  • Ability to cultivate strong relationships with colleagues and stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated with the ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Proven track record of innovation and continuous improvement.
  • Solid understanding of commercial dynamics.
  • Experience with Technology, Marketing, and Intellectual Property contracts.
