About the Role

Compass Community School Athelstan is an independent specialist school providing high-quality, therapeutic education to boys and girls from 7 to 17 years of age in Westbury, Wiltshire.

Our children come from diverse backgrounds, all with Social, Emotional and Mental Health needs (SEMH), and many with other Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) such as Autism, ADHD, and communication difficulties. Many have experienced significant trauma and adverse childhood experiences, and may have social care involvement.

We take a trauma and attachment-informed approach, providing extensive therapeutic training and support to all staff.

Key Responsibilities

As a Higher Level Teaching Assistant, you will work closely with teachers to support children with complex needs. Your role will involve:

  • Supporting teachers in the classroom
  • Working with children 1:1 or delivering sessions with small groups
  • Managing classroom resources
  • Taking children on trips and visits
  • Providing social support and building relationships with children
  • Managing heightened behaviours and ensuring child safety
  • Participating in therapy sessions and reflecting on challenging periods
