Job Description

Role Overview

The National Institute for Health and Care Research (NIHR) is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the role of Senior Programme Manager - Patient and Public Involvement. This position offers an exciting opportunity to join a team of seasoned experts dedicated to spearheading the advancement and execution of our Patient and Public Involvement and Engagement (PPIE) strategy.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice, oversight, and coordination of key work themes around outreach and engagement.
  • Drive the sharing of PPIE knowledge, effective practice, and expertise at an organisational level.
  • Provide oversight, expertise, and coordination to support and monitor the development of PPI in NIHR initiatives.
  • Lead on the development, delivery, monitoring, review, and reporting of our annual involvement and engagement plan.
  • Work with other members of NIHR's senior team, contributing to policy development and cross-NIHR strategic priorities.
  • Establish, maintain, and manage effective external relationships and networks.
  • Lead on people management.

Requirements

  • Degree in humanities, arts, and social sciences or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and experience of patient and public involvement in the community or healthcare sector and/or research.
  • Experience in planning, delivery, monitoring, review, and reporting strategies.
  • Experience of working with the public, building stakeholder relationships.
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills.
  • Excellent communication skills.
  • Effective planning/organisational skills.
  • Commitment to equality, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Excellent IT skills, including the use of Google Apps.
  • Experience of successfully managing and developing staff.
