About Us:

At Essex County Council, we are dedicated to fostering a supportive environment for children and families, ensuring their growth and well-being. Our commitment to collaboration, integrity, and compassion drives our mission to protect children and young people from neglect and abuse while promoting their development.

Role Overview:

The primary objective of this position is to engage with frontline teams focused on Children and Young People with Disabilities (CYPWD). The CYPWD team is responsible for delivering a comprehensive service to children and young people aged 0-15 and 16+, emphasizing timely and targeted interventions that are outcome-focused.

The successful candidate will provide a variety of support directly to children and young individuals with complex learning and/or physical disabilities. This includes offering practical, personal, and emotional assistance tailored to the assessed needs of the child, young person, and their family, thereby enhancing their health, physical, mental, and social development.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Implement positive behavior support strategies to assist families in managing challenging behaviors, including routines, relationships, and emotional regulation.
  • Facilitate programs that help children and young people comprehend their 'Life Story' as part of their care plan, while also supporting siblings of children with additional needs.
  • Conduct assessments related to sleep and develop programs aimed at promoting overall well-being.
  • Encourage effective communication methods among children, young people, and families, utilizing tools such as PECS, Makaton, BSL, and Communication Passports.
  • Support parents and caregivers in enhancing their parenting skills through mentoring, teaching, and the application of parenting programs.
  • Investigate external community resources that can assist families in meeting their needs.

Qualifications and Experience:

Essential:

  • NVQ/BTEC Level 3 or equivalent qualification.
  • Proven experience in applying positive behavior management techniques.
  • Demonstrated ability to build strong, effective relationships with children, young people, and families during challenging times.
  • Experience in conducting direct, activity-based work with children, young people, and families.

Desirable:

  • Understanding of the challenges faced by children, young people, and families that necessitate support.
  • Familiarity with relevant legislation and policy guidance within Children's Social Care.
  • First Aid Certification or proficiency in Sign Language.

Mobility Requirements:

The role necessitates mobility across a broader operational area, including the ability to transport service users and their belongings as needed. A valid driving license and access to a vehicle, or the capability to meet the mobility requirements through alternative means, are essential for this position.
