Position Overview

The Child and Adolescent Emotional Support Specialist within the Child and Adolescent Mental Health Services (CAMHS) plays a vital role in delivering assistance and therapeutic interventions to young individuals facing emotional and behavioral difficulties.

This position also includes training sessions for parents focused on co-regulation techniques to improve family interactions. The expertise of the practitioner will significantly aid in fostering emotional resilience and enhancing the overall mental health of both individuals and their families.

The Service operates from 8am to 8pm, Monday to Saturday. Availability for two late shifts weekly, including some Saturdays, is required.

Key Responsibilities

HCRG Care Group is tasked with delivering a variety of services for children, young people, and families across Essex, all provided at no cost at the point of access, including our CAMHS service.

Individual and Group Therapy: Facilitate personalized and group therapy sessions for children and adolescents to cultivate skills in emotion regulation and resilience. Parental Training: Lead workshops for parents to impart co-regulation strategies, enhancing their capability to support their children's emotional health. Team Collaboration: Collaborate closely with the broader Getting Help team to ensure cohesive care and intervention approaches. Supportive Environment: Engage with the support network surrounding the child or young person to create a nurturing and encouraging atmosphere within CAMHS, promoting the well-being of children, adolescents, and their families. Skill Enhancement: Assist clients in acquiring self-regulation and conflict resolution skills, empowering them to manage their emotions effectively. Progress Evaluation: Regularly monitor and assess client progress, modifying treatment plans as needed. Record Keeping: Maintain precise and current documentation of client interactions, assessments, and interventions in accordance with CAMHS guidelines and legal standards. Family Involvement: Foster open communication and collaboration with parents and guardians to ensure a comprehensive and family-oriented approach to care.

Ideal Candidate Profile

Experience working with children and adolescents facing emotional and behavioral challenges, preferably in a therapeutic or behavior management context. Qualifications: A minimum of a level 4 qualification in a relevant field (psychology, counseling, social work). Expertise in Co-Regulation: Familiarity with co-regulation techniques and strategies for engaging parents to enhance family dynamics. Communication Skills: Strong communication and interpersonal abilities to effectively engage with children, adolescents, parents, colleagues, and other stakeholders. Empathy and Commitment: Patience, empathy, and a genuine dedication to positively impacting the lives of children, adolescents, and their families. Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide comprehensive care. Flexibility: Willingness to adapt working hours to accommodate the needs of young clients and their families, including evening and weekend commitments. A valid driver's license and access to a vehicle for travel to various locations, including schools and partner organizations.
