Overview of the Position
The mission of Cyber Operations is to enhance safety in healthcare and foster public confidence by strengthening NHS England's cyber resilience, while also empowering the broader health system to achieve similar resilience. Our aim is to support the Transformation Directorate in delivering optimal care and outcomes for the NHS.

The Cyber Operations sub-directorate encompasses four key operational sectors:
Cyber Security Operations Unit (CSOU). Cyber Delivery Unit (CDU). Cyber Improvement. Chief Information Security Office Function (CISO).The Cyber Security Operations Centre (CSOC), part of the CSOU, is responsible for centralized monitoring and response across NHS England and the wider system. The CSOC includes Threat Operations (ThreatOps), Protective Monitoring, Incident Management & Response, Service Operations (ServiceOps), and Engineering.
To bolster our strategy for enhancing NHS England's cyber resilience, we are seeking to recruit two Security Leads to provide consultancy support within the CSOC Pillar. The Cyber Security Operations Centre delivers second-line security analytics and incident response services.
Key Responsibilities
As a Security Lead - Consulting, your responsibilities will include:
Facilitating cross-departmental initiatives and collaboration among teams such as Engineering, Service Operations, Protective Monitoring, Threat Operations, and Incident Management within the CSOC. Delivering and implementing threat modeling services for the CSOC. Providing technical support in the design, configuration, and operation of CSOC defensive cyber capabilities and associated infrastructure, including cloud technologies. Contributing to complex incidents and investigations, assisting with large-scale incidents throughout the NHS. Demonstrating a comprehensive understanding of technical design principles and producing relevant documentation. Identifying and executing improvements within the CSOC, including intra-team and inter-team activities that enhance the delivery of protective monitoring to the NHS. Offering specialized knowledge and expertise across a diverse range of cyber security domains related to Engineering, Protective Monitoring, Threat Operations, and Incident Management.Important Note:
All NHS Digital/England Cyber Security personnel are required to hold security clearance at SC level as a minimum. To comply with National Security Vetting requirements, candidates must have resided in the UK for at least 3 out of the last 5 years to qualify for SC clearance. Candidates who have served abroad with HM Government, Armed Forces, or within a UK government role will still be considered. Further information regarding SC clearance can be found in relevant resources.Please ensure you meet these criteria before considering this role. While you do not need to possess SC clearance at the time of application, failure to meet the requirements for SC clearance post-offer will result in the withdrawal of the job offer.
Candidate Profile
We are looking for candidates with the following skills and experience:
Information Security Management - Possess advanced specialist knowledge of information security management processes, tools, and techniques, with the ability to deploy and monitor information security systems, as well as detect, resolve, and prevent IT security violations to safeguard organizational data.
Information Security Technologies - In-depth understanding of technologies and solutions related to information security; capable of applying these to protect information security across the organization.
Information Security Operation Centre (ISOC) - Comprehensive knowledge of modules, processes, and technologies associated with Information Security Operation Centres; skilled in detecting, responding to, and utilizing related platforms and applications for cyber security initiatives.
Security Information and Event Management (SIEM) - Extensive knowledge of the concepts, procedures, and processes involved in Security Information and Event Management; adept at utilizing related applications to safeguard organizational networks from cyber threats.
Intrusion Detection and Prevention - Proven knowledge of tools, techniques, and processes for intrusion detection and prevention; capable of identifying, resolving, and preventing intrusion activities to protect organizational networks.
Threat Hunting - Demonstrated knowledge of threat hunting processes, techniques, and procedures; skilled in proactively identifying cyber threats and understanding adversarial tactics targeting the Health and Social Care sector.
End Point Security - Highly proficient in Endpoint Security, with the ability to query security platforms proactively and create effective detections. Expert knowledge of endpoint security concepts, issues, and techniques; capable of ensuring compliance of endpoint devices under various circumstances.
