Role: Senior Computational Microbiologist

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Senior Computational Microbiologist to join our growing team. In this role, you will play a pivotal part in shaping our data-driven approach to microbial discovery and development.

  • Transform Scientific Goals into Actionable Insights: You will translate broad scientific objectives into well-defined research questions, guiding laboratory experiments and ensuring the generation of valuable data.
  • Collaborate with Laboratory Scientists: Work closely with our talented team of researchers to evaluate experimental strategies, optimize workflows, and ensure the production of high-quality data.
  • Statistical Expertise for Experimental Design: Utilize your expertise in statistical modeling and machine learning to design efficient experiments and identify meaningful outcomes from complex datasets.
  • Bioinformatics Proficiency: Prepare omics data for analysis by collaborating with bioinformaticians, ensuring its readiness for downstream machine learning applications.
  • Develop Cutting-Edge Machine Learning Models: Drive the research and development of novel machine learning methodologies to model microbial communities and predict the emergence of significant microorganisms.
  • Accelerate Microbial Discovery: Implement predictive modeling techniques to expedite the exploration for novel microbes, guide their cultivation, and stimulate metabolite production.
  • Software Development Contributions: Contribute to the enhancement of our software platform, which is crucial for managing data flow and accessibility. Our primary tools include MySQL, SQLAlchemy, and Python for data science, alongside a bespoke React-based web application for laboratory scientists.
  • Mentorship and Collaboration: Provide technical guidance and mentorship to team members, fostering a collaborative and innovative environment within our computational team.

Qualifications:

  • PhD in Data Science, Computational Biology, Mathematics, Bioinformatics, or a related STEM field.
  • Professional research or work experience in biotechnology with a computational emphasis.
  • Proficiency in statistical modeling and machine learning techniques.
  • Advanced proficiency in Python and experience with data science and machine learning libraries.
  • Bioinformatics familiarity and experience with data commonly used in the field.
  • Industry experience in collaborative software development.
