Position Overview
An exceptional opportunity exists for a full-time Senior Medical Microbiologist to join a vibrant team of professionals at University College London Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.
This role offers a diverse range of responsibilities, allowing the successful candidate to engage in various infection management activities.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the clinical infection service for urology and thoracic surgery, focusing on infection diagnosis, management, and antimicrobial stewardship.
- Oversee the recurrent urinary tract infection multidisciplinary team (MDT) meetings.
- Support the microbiology liaison for the Haematology service, participating in daily MDT meetings and contributing to national discussions on complex cases.
- Contribute to the general clinical microbiology service by leading daily discussions on bacteraemia and complex cases.
- Participate in the Trust's infection control initiatives and antimicrobial stewardship efforts, including leading rounds on Clostridiodes difficile.
- Engage in laboratory governance activities and contribute to the development of future interventions through data mapping.
Job Structure:
The role encompasses an average of 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week, which includes on-call duties. The successful candidate will be responsible for laboratory liaison, providing microbiological and infection control guidance, and supporting the recurrent urinary tract infection MDT.
Microbiology support for Haematology will involve daily MDT participation and opportunities to expand activities in this area.
