In this role, you will have the chance to:

  • Collaborate with innovative and experienced teams in a nurturing and forward-thinking atmosphere.
  • Assist educational institutions in implementing effective universal and targeted practices.
  • Provide specialized interventions for children and young individuals with Education, Health, and Care Plans.
  • Partner with parents, educators, and other professionals to create a comprehensive understanding of each child's speech, language, and communication requirements.
  • Enhance your supervisory and training capabilities.
  • Participate in individual and group supervision sessions, along with a structured in-house training program to refine your clinical expertise.

Key Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be tasked with:

  • Delivering specialized services to children in mainstream schools who have Speech/Language and Communication Needs (SLCN), collaborating closely with parents and staff to support children's development in speech, language, and communication.
  • Assessing, designing, and executing tailored Speech and Language Therapy interventions for children referred to the service.
  • Offering guidance to others regarding the management of children with communication challenges.
  • Taking responsibility for professional actions and recognizing personal boundaries, seeking advice from senior colleagues when necessary.
  • Providing supervision and peer review support to junior colleagues and students, including offering second opinions as required.
  • Conducting relevant in-service training independently for school staff and others.
  • Demonstrating advanced skills in a specialized area of SLCN within the diverse range of speech, language, and communication needs encountered in school-aged children.
  • Coordinating with colleagues across various statutory and non-statutory organizations.

Responsibilities

  • Assessing, developing, and implementing Speech and Language Therapy interventions for children with diverse speech, language, and communication difficulties.
  • Analyzing auditory, visual, and kinesthetic aspects of children's communication to identify effective strategies for enhancing communicative success in various settings.
  • Making informed clinical decisions based on assessments, utilizing evidence-based practices and outcome measurements to ensure effective treatment.
  • Conducting differential diagnoses based on assessment evidence.
  • Demonstrating clinical effectiveness through evidence-based practices and relevant outcome measures, particularly in specialized fields.

Qualifications and Experience

Essential

  • A degree and license to practice from the Royal College of Speech & Language Therapists.
  • Current registration with HCPC and RCSLT.
  • Experience supporting children, families, and schools in accordance with the Children and Families Act 2014, including contributions to statutory assessments and delivery of SLT provisions as specified in Education Health and Care Plans (EHCPs).
  • Collaborative experience with parents and other professionals.
  • Experience in training others.

Desirable

  • Interest in developing clinical specialization in education.
  • Training or experience in supporting students and junior therapists, including supervision and management.

  • Knowledge of national policies and procedures relevant to education.
  • Understanding of audit principles.
  • Knowledge of the roles of other professionals relevant to the client group.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of professional standards for record-keeping.
  • A holistic perspective on communication challenges.
  • Ability to manage and organize personal caseload independently while supporting junior staff in managing theirs.
