Position Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and proactive Clinical Pharmacy Associate to become a vital member of our healthcare team, working part-time at 30 hours per week.

The ideal candidate should possess a recognized qualification, such as a Certificate of Higher Education in Pharmacy Technician Practice or an equivalent qualification in pharmaceutical sciences or pharmacy services.

Demonstrated experience in a hospital setting is essential, along with clinical ward experience and an Accredited Checking Pharmacy Technician qualification.

Completion of accredited courses in Medicines Management and Medicines Reconciliation is advantageous, although candidates currently pursuing these qualifications will also be considered.

This role may be viewed as a developmental opportunity at Band 4, with the expectation of completing the in-house Self Led Education and Development Scheme (SLEDS) training program and subsequent assessment to achieve Band 5 status.

Main Responsibilities

The successful candidate will be responsible for:

  • Performing pharmacy tasks as directed by management, including supporting Medicines Management and Optimization within clinical areas and the Dispensary.
  • Conducting end-checks on prescriptions that have been validated by a pharmacist (ACPT).
  • Participating in the 7-day pharmacy service as required.
  • Coordinating staff, workflow, and workload to ensure adequate dispensary service and facilitate effective handovers.
  • Assisting the clinical pharmacy team by evaluating Patients Own Drugs (PODs) for suitability, discussing future supply with patients or care providers, and ordering necessary medications from the pharmacy.
  • Transcribing medication requirements from drug charts onto ward pharmacy sheets.
  • Conducting Medicines Reconciliation (upon completion of accredited training), verifying patient medication history against prescribed medications on the inpatient prescription chart.
  • Providing counseling to patients or caregivers (after completing in-house or accredited training), particularly for those with complex medication regimens or compliance issues.
  • Maintaining registration with the General Pharmaceutical Council and fulfilling Continuing Professional Development requirements.
