Senior Commercial Executive

Role: Commercial Manager
Compensation: £40,000 - £50,000 + Company Vehicle
Location: Flexible within the UK
As a Commercial Manager, you will be responsible for the commercial oversight of a varied portfolio of projects or a major singular project. Your duties will encompass supervising the management and growth of project surveyors, alongside trainee and assistant surveyors, ensuring the effective commercial delivery of projects.
Core Responsibilities:
- Contract Evaluation & Negotiation: Perform comprehensive assessments of proposed contract conditions, suggesting alternative terms when necessary to reduce risks. Manage the procurement process for all subcontracted tasks.
- Subcontractor Oversight: Offer expert guidance on the application of standard subcontract forms across all initiatives.
- Payment Oversight: Supervise the management of interim payment requests, ensuring timely issuance of client payment confirmations and receipts.
- Time Extension Management: Oversee time extension requests and collaborate with the planning team to ensure coherence.
- Commercial Briefings: Ensure all site personnel receive a thorough commercial briefing.
- Documentation Management: Inform the project team of necessary records to support additional payments, ensuring careful maintenance of these documents.
- Variation and Claims Oversight: Measure, assess, and agree on variations, and evaluate formal claims made by subcontractors.
- Subcontractor Payments Management: Oversee subcontractor payments, issue payment notifications promptly, and evaluate interim and final accounts based on completed work and claims.
- Project Documentation: Ensure all handover documentation is finalized and distributed by subcontractors.
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and distribute precise monthly cost forecasts and cash flow statements.
- Project Review Participation: Attend monthly project review sessions to provide commercial insights.
- Legal and Commercial Knowledge: Maintain current knowledge of commercial and legal matters.
- Contract Variations Management: Administer and submit all Main Contract variations in a timely manner.
- Team Development: Train, coach, and mentor junior commercial personnel.
Essential Skills & Experience:
- Negotiation & Leadership: Strong negotiation capabilities, with the ability to lead and inspire commercial teams.
- Commercial Strategy Development: Proven track record in formulating and executing commercial strategies to enhance project profitability.
- Communication Proficiency: Excellent communication skills for effective engagement with suppliers and clients.
- Educational Background: A relevant degree (1:1 or 2:1) or HNC/HND equivalent is required.
- Experience: Significant experience in a comparable role is essential.
- Professional Accreditation: Full membership of the Royal Institute of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) is desirable.
