We are in search of an Automation Operations Supervisor to join our cutting-edge 2.5 million square foot Distribution Centre. This facility, equivalent to over 30 football pitches, stands as one of the most sophisticated warehouses in the UK. Role Overview

In this position, you will lead and manage the Automation Team, ensuring minimal downtime and maximizing the availability of automated systems during your shift. Your technical expertise and dedication to service excellence will be crucial in supporting operations, as you employ a diverse skill set to enhance performance and reliability. The role entails a balanced focus, with 50% of your time dedicated to team leadership and the remaining 50% to hands-on maintenance tasks.

You will report directly to the Engineering Manager.

  • Overseeing and coordinating the activities of your shift team through effective planning and organization.
  • Providing training, coaching, and mentorship to your shift team.
  • Conducting performance evaluations, including formal reviews.
  • Analyzing data to maintain and enhance operational efficiency in alignment with key performance indicators (KPIs).
  • Promoting safe working practices.
  • Performing maintenance and servicing on all automated equipment on-site.
  • Executing both planned and reactive repairs on automated material handling systems, including conveyors and robotics.
  • Diagnosing mechanical and electrical faults.
  • Responding promptly to automation issues and breakdowns to ensure minimal disruption.
  • Actively working to enhance automation performance.
  • Completing reports in accordance with requirements using CMMS and Microsoft software.
  • Supporting service tracking and analyzing error rates, contributing to corrective action plans.
  • Adhering to health and safety regulations and overseeing hazardous tasks.
  • Leading shift handover meetings and participating in other site meetings as necessary.
  • Maintaining effective communication with the Automation Manager and Head of Automation.

Required Qualifications

  • Previous experience in a leadership role within an automation environment.
  • Relevant engineering qualifications.
  • A mindset focused on continuous improvement, always seeking ways to optimize automation operations.
  • Strong communication skills, capable of building relationships with both technical and non-technical personnel.
  • An inspiring leader who can coach and guide their team towards success, including managing difficult conversations and performance issues.
