Job Summary

The Respiratory Physiology department at The Princess Alexandra Hospital NHS Trust is seeking a highly experienced Chief Respiratory Physiologist to lead our team on a permanent, full-time basis. As a key member of our team, you will be responsible for providing expert clinical care, supporting junior colleagues, and demonstrating best practice in our service to the Trust and the wider community.

Main Responsibilities
  • Perform full lung function testing safely and in accordance with established guidelines.
  • Conduct a range of respiratory diagnostic tests, including spirometry, gas transfer, static lung volumes, bronchodilator response testing, and shuttle walk tests.
  • Undertake expert analysis and clinical interpretation of test results, providing accurate and timely analysis to support patient care.
  • Identify and rectify equipment faults/malfunctions, ensuring that our testing equipment is in good working order.
  • Communicate complex information to patients and their carers regarding test results, providing clear and sensitive explanations.
  • Lead on the production of the monthly divisional performance report for business meetings, ensuring that our team's performance is accurately reflected.

Our extended catchment area incorporates a population of up to 500,000, including the areas of Hoddesdon, Cheshunt, and Broxbourne in Hertfordshire.

Job Requirements

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • Significant experience in respiratory physiology, with a strong track record of leadership and team management.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate complex information to patients and colleagues.
  • A strong understanding of respiratory physiology and diagnostic testing, with the ability to interpret test results and provide expert clinical care.
