About the Role

Transport for Wales is seeking a highly skilled Government Relations Manager to lead on our government relations with the UK and Welsh Government senior officials. This is a key role in shaping our relationships with government and ensuring we are well-positioned to deliver our mission to transform transport in Wales.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide expert advice on government affairs by drafting and reviewing correspondence from UK and Welsh Governments, serving as the primary point of contact for officials and Ministers.
  • Lead the development and delivery of events, including briefings for Ministers, TfW Board Members, and the Executive Leadership Team, through minute taking and supporting the ELT member as needed.
  • Draft weekly updates for Ministers and officials, working across TfW to identify, develop, and create positive stories to raise the profile and trust of TfW with the UK and Welsh Governments.
  • Deliver robust programs, including meetings and targeted communications, to inform Ministers and officials of TfW developments and ensure Welsh Government feels trusted and confident in our capabilities.

Requirements

  • Extensive experience working in the public sector and with government officials and Ministers.
  • Understanding of Welsh and UK Government procedures and protocols, as well as the political environment in both Wales and England.
  • Ability to lead on the development and delivery of materials to inform the wider business of best practice approaches and government requirements.
  • Demonstrable experience establishing and maintaining effective relationships and communicating with a wide range of colleagues, customers, and stakeholders.

Welsh Language Skills

The ability to speak/write Welsh would be a great asset, but it is not essential for this role. Transport for Wales supports and promotes the use of the Welsh Language and encourages employees to develop and improve their skills.
