Position Overview
  • Lead and shape Logistics UK's policy initiatives concerning decarbonization across various transport modes, with guidance from the Head of Decarbonisation Policy.
  • Develop and maintain a comprehensive understanding of policy areas within the portfolio, actively monitoring and reporting on emerging topics.
  • Engage closely with members, facilitating relevant councils and working groups to build consensus and articulate their perspectives to policymakers and the media.
  • Conduct effective outreach to decision-makers and influencers, including government representatives and industry stakeholders, to sway policy outcomes.
  • Oversee the creation of high-quality consultation responses, briefing documents, speaking notes, and presentations tailored for diverse audiences, contributing to report development as necessary.
  • Deliver impactful presentations to members and a range of external stakeholders.
  • Assist in crafting media statements on policy issues within the portfolio and serve as a spokesperson on relevant matters.
  • Collaborate with colleagues in the Policy Department, providing expert insights on policy issues and guidance for their interactions with decision-makers and members.
  • Manage Logistics UK's engagement in a designated region, including oversight of relevant Freight Councils.
  • Exhibit effective cross-organizational collaboration to achieve broader business objectives, including partnerships with Member Relations, Communications, and Marketing.
  • Offer policy expertise to support Logistics UK events on topics pertinent to the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement strategies to achieve policy objectives within the portfolio, with the flexibility to address additional topics as needed.
  • Ensure accuracy in policy information and positions on assigned topics, representing consensus member views accurately.
  • Provide expert policy support across Logistics UK on assigned topics to help achieve broader business goals.
  • Engage in policy discussions within a designated region, tracking relevant developments and keeping members informed.
  • Serve as Secretary to assigned Regional Freight Councils and Working Groups, coordinating engagement, speakers, and meetings in various formats.
  • Support junior team members, assigning tasks and overseeing their outputs, with potential line management responsibilities.
  • Demonstrate Logistics UK's core values: Excellence, Dynamism, Togetherness, and Reputation.

Qualifications

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with proficiency in delivering presentations.
  • Confidence and capability to represent Logistics UK at high levels of government and with media.
  • A collaborative team player contributing to Logistics UK's broader policy, communications, and commercial objectives.
  • Understanding of public policy development and strategies for influencing it.
  • Genuine interest in logistics-related issues.
  • Willingness to travel regularly as required to fulfill the role's responsibilities.
