Position Overview
  • Lead and strategize Logistics UK's policy initiatives concerning decarbonization across diverse transport modes, under the guidance of the Head of Decarbonisation Policy.
  • Establish and maintain a comprehensive understanding of policy areas within the portfolio, actively monitoring and providing insights on emerging topics.
  • Collaborate closely with members, overseeing relevant councils and working groups, to achieve consensus and represent their perspectives to policymakers and the media.
  • Engage effectively with decision-makers and influencers, including government representatives and industry stakeholders, to shape policy outcomes.
  • Oversee the creation of high-quality consultation responses, briefing materials, speaking notes, and presentations tailored for various audiences, contributing to report development as necessary.
  • Deliver impactful presentations to members and a wide range of external stakeholders.
  • Assist in formulating media statements on policy matters within the portfolio and serve as a spokesperson on pertinent topics.
  • Work collaboratively with colleagues in the Policy Department, providing expert advice on policy issues and guidance for their interactions with decision-makers and members.
  • Manage Logistics UK's engagement in a designated region, including oversight of relevant Freight Councils.
  • Foster effective cross-organizational collaboration to achieve broader business objectives, partnering with Member Relations, Communications, and Marketing teams.
  • Provide policy expertise to support Logistics UK events related to the portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
  • Develop and implement activities and engagement strategies to achieve policy objectives within the portfolio, with the flexibility to address additional topics as needed.
  • Ensure accuracy in policy information and positions on assigned topics, accurately reflecting consensus member views.
  • Offer expert policy support across Logistics UK on assigned topics to facilitate the achievement of broader business goals.
  • Engage in policy activities within a designated region, monitoring relevant developments and keeping members informed.
  • Serve as Secretary to assigned Regional Freight Councils and Working Groups, coordinating engagement, speakers, and meetings in various formats.
  • Support junior team members within the department, assigning tasks and overseeing their outputs, with potential line management responsibilities.
  • Exemplify Logistics UK's core values: Excellence, Dynamism, Togetherness, and Reputation.

Qualifications

  • Degree-level education or equivalent experience.
  • Strong persuasive and articulate communication skills, both written and verbal, including presentation abilities.
  • Confidence and capability to represent Logistics UK at high levels of government and with media.
  • A collaborative team player who contributes to Logistics UK's broader policy, communications, and commercial objectives.
  • Understanding of public policy development and the ability to influence it.
  • Genuine interest in logistics-related issues.
  • Willingness to travel regularly as required to fulfill role responsibilities.
