Career Opportunity

This role presents an exciting alternative career path for Registered General Nurses (RGNs) and qualified Paramedics with over three years of post-qualification experience.

The custody environment is dynamic and varied, ensuring that no two days are alike. During the police's 24-hour detention period, we deliver a high standard of care tailored to the diverse needs of detainees, which may include drug or alcohol dependency and acute medical situations.

Our committed healthcare professionals are trained to collect forensic samples that aid police investigations.

Prior experience in forensics is not a requirement. As a Forensic Custody Healthcare Professional, you will collaborate closely with law enforcement and receive comprehensive training and support to become a certified Forensic Practitioner.

The 4-on-4-off shift pattern allows for personal life planning well in advance. The schedule consists of two day shifts, two night shifts, followed by four days off.

Key Responsibilities
  • Conducting forensic sampling (including blood tests for road traffic offenses).
  • Providing referrals and support for vulnerabilities, assisting patients in breaking cycles of re-offending.
  • Delivering therapies for substance misuse.
  • Assessing and caring for detainees and staff within custody suites.
  • Managing acute health conditions.
  • Promoting personal health and wellness.
  • Collaborating with Liaison and Diversion services to identify mental health needs.
Essential Qualifications
  • Registered Nurse or Paramedic qualification.
  • A minimum of three years of post-qualification experience.
  • Experience in acute medical care.

Previous experience in areas such as A&E, walk-in centers, substance misuse, community nursing, police custody, or prison settings, as a Paramedic Practitioner, Registered Nurse, or in other relevant fields would be advantageous.
