The successful candidate will collaborate with our dedicated team of specialist nurses and fellow consultants, as well as support our subspecialty departments.
Key ResponsibilitiesThe selected candidate will collaborate with the cardiology consultant team to deliver an exceptional cardiology service for patients, stakeholders, and healthcare professionals.
To address the growing demands in cardiology, with a focus on Acute Cardiology, the candidate will work closely with specialist nurses and other consultants within the Heart Failure service.
The post holder will be an integral part of the West Hertfordshire cardiology department, maintaining close communication with colleagues in the Emergency Department and Acute Medicine. The successful applicant will also oversee the capacity for cardiac clinics, with no obligations to the cardiology wards or General Medicine on-call duties.
Position OverviewJob Duties
The successful candidate for this clinical role will primarily operate at Watford General Hospital. They will work alongside the cardiology consultant team to provide a highly effective cardiology service for patients, local general practitioners, and hospital staff. In-patient cardiology services are centralized at the acute site. Patients with primary cardiology conditions will be admitted under the direct supervision of the Cardiology team. The appointee is expected to work autonomously and in close collaboration with colleagues in the Acute Assessment Unit, Emergency Department, and Ambulatory care to enhance and develop the frontline service within the Trust. It is anticipated that the post holder will also conduct outpatient hot clinics during the week to facilitate early discharges and urgent referrals. One of these clinics may be located at a satellite facility.
The role includes dedicated time for frontline care, encompassing AAU and Emergency Department post-take and ward rounds, as well as support for our Virtual Heart Failure ward. Time will also be allocated to triage A&E discharges into clinics through the electronic Urgent Care Review initiative, which is currently under development. The successful candidate will be expected to contribute to this evolving project, and in accordance with the cardiology GIRFT recommendations, this may involve participation in an emergency on-call rota, to be confirmed.
