Position Overview
West Hertfordshire Teaching Hospitals NHS Trust is seeking to appoint a Senior Stroke Consultant. This role will primarily involve working within a collaborative and supportive stroke team, contributing to the delivery of high-quality care for patients experiencing stroke-related conditions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for both inpatient and outpatient services, which include supporting the thrombolysis service during standard working hours, conducting ward rounds on the hyper-acute and acute Stroke Unit, and participating in outpatient and TIA clinics.
The position offers 1 SPA flexibility, with the potential for an additional SPA (totaling 2 per week) for those willing to assist in supervising trainees.
This initiative aligns with the Trust's commitment to flexible working arrangements and acknowledges the significant contributions made by our staff to patient care.
To enhance our standing as an Employer of Choice, the Trust has introduced the following Recruitment and Retention incentives for successful candidates:
- £7,000 welcome payment for new hires, distributed in 12 equal installments.
- £12,000 recruitment and retention fee for the first three years (paid in equal monthly installments) applicable to both new hires and existing consultants.
- Eligible candidates may also receive a relocation allowance exceeding £12,000 (if applicable).
Key Responsibilities
- Delivering services at the designated hospital, ensuring the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of illnesses, while maintaining the effective operation of the department.
- Collaborating with colleagues in Emergency Medicine, Medicine, Care of the Elderly, and Integrated Care Boards to guarantee optimal patient management across the Trust.
- Providing coverage for colleagues during annual leave and other authorized absences.
- Engaging in clinical and other responsibilities within Care of the Elderly/Medicine as needed, including participation in departmental educational and management meetings.
- Supervising and mentoring junior medical staff.
- Conducting teaching, examinations, and accreditation of junior staff, while contributing to undergraduate, postgraduate, and continuing medical education at both local and national levels.
- Participating in medical audits, the Trust's Clinical Governance processes, and continuing professional development (CPD).
- Assuming managerial responsibilities, including budgetary oversight, where appropriate.
- Engaging in additional professional responsibilities at local, regional, or national levels.
