About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Sous Chef to join our team at Holroyd Howe, a leading contract caterer in the UK. As a key member of our culinary team, you will play a vital role in delivering exceptional food services to our clients, including independent schools and colleges.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assist the Head Chef in all aspects of food preparation, production, and service, ensuring the highest standards of quality and presentation.
  • Supervise and train kitchen staff, kitchen assistants, and ensure adherence to food safety and sanitation procedures, maintaining a clean and organized kitchen environment.
  • Collaborate with the catering team to execute special events, themed dinners, and other culinary initiatives, fostering a positive working environment and demonstrating leadership qualities.
  • Assist in menu planning and development, taking into consideration dietary restrictions, nutritional guidelines, and seasonal ingredients, staying updated on industry trends, culinary techniques, and new ingredients.
  • Oversee stock control and ordering, maintaining appropriate inventory levels while minimizing waste, and support the Head Chef in administrative tasks such as scheduling, budgeting, and maintaining records of food costs and inventory.
Requirements
  • Previous experience working in a similar role within a contract catering company or educational institution is preferred.
  • Culinary degree or relevant certifications from a recognized culinary institute are essential.
  • Strong knowledge of food safety standards and best practices is required.
  • Ability to multitask and work efficiently under pressure in a high-volume kitchen environment is essential.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are necessary.
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as required is a must.
