Senior Attendance Officer

Main Responsibilities- Lead the attendance team in achieving attendance targets and ensuring the effective management of attendance and punctuality policies.
- Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement attendance strategies that promote student engagement and academic success.
- Monitor attendance and punctuality daily, identifying trends and areas for improvement, and implementing targeted interventions to address attendance concerns.
- Participate in late desk duties and follow up on detentions to be issued for late students, ensuring that students understand the importance of punctuality.
- Communicate with parents and carers of students absent at agreed times, recording reasons for absence and providing support to families in need.
- Provide daily monitoring and early calls on the attendance of children in care or students on the vulnerable list, prioritizing their needs and ensuring their well-being.
- Conduct home visits with the Academy welfare manager as required, building relationships with families and promoting a culture of attendance and punctuality.
- Prepare and distribute attendance and punctuality certificates, recognizing students' achievements and encouraging good attendance habits.
- Follow up on poor attendance or punctuality, working with students, parents, and carers to develop strategies for improvement.
- Ensure the smooth operation and accuracy of the computerized registration system, maintaining high standards of data management and reporting.
- Establish the reason for absences, including telephone calls, letters, and home visits, and provide evidence-based support to students and families.
- Liaise with the Educational Welfare Officer to ensure prompt, consistent, and rigorous intervention on poor attendance, promoting a culture of attendance and punctuality.
- Monitor student attendance together with students' progress and performance, identifying areas for improvement and developing targeted interventions.
- Deal efficiently and effectively with referrals on attendance concerns, providing support and guidance to students and families.
- Alert staff to problems experienced by students and make recommendations on resolutions, promoting a culture of attendance and punctuality.
- Attend all relevant meetings, including organizing fortnightly meetings with Faculty Directors, to ensure effective communication and collaboration.
- Meet with Looked After Children (LAC) students weekly, passing on relevant information regarding their welfare and promoting a culture of attendance and punctuality.
- Qualifications to degree standard or equivalent, with a strong understanding of attendance policies and procedures.
- Sound knowledge of Microsoft software, including Management Information Systems for input and export of student attendance data.
- Knowledge of attendance codes and when they can be used, as well as a range of attendance policies and procedures.
- Basic knowledge of first aid, including emergency first aid courses.
- Three years' experience of working in an inner-city school or educational establishment, with a strong understanding of the social issues facing students from disadvantaged backgrounds.
- Experience of working with Academy welfare officers, parents, and carers, as well as managing attendance systems.
- Experience in a similar role, with a strong understanding of attendance policies and procedures.
- Experience of working with young people, including those with challenging behavior, and promoting a culture of attendance and punctuality.
