Role Overview

Ecclesiastical Insurance, part of the esteemed Benefact Group, is seeking a Compliance Officer to enhance our operations in the Gloucester office.

In this pivotal role, you will serve as a primary line of defence within the UK General Insurance division (UKGI), providing insights on legal and regulatory responsibilities, clarifying their implications for the business, and executing robust controls.

Key Responsibilities
  • Deliver expert knowledge regarding the legal and regulatory framework applicable to UKGI.
  • Monitor legal and regulatory changes impacting UKGI, collaborating with Line 2 colleagues to develop suitable internal controls.
  • Evaluate the actual and potential effects on UKGI's legal and regulatory responsibilities, proposing efficient and effective management strategies.
  • Provide clear, actionable advice and guidance.
  • Oversee, manage, and report on the progress of compliance initiatives within UKGI.
  • Ensure timely and accurate reporting to the UKGI Leadership Team regarding compliance and conduct.
  • Facilitate the effective functioning of relevant governance and implementation groups, such as the Customer and Conduct Council.
  • Enhance understanding of legal and regulatory obligations and associated risks across the organization.
  • Conduct root cause analyses of risk incidents, coordinating insights from various sources.
  • Support UKGI colleagues in understanding their regulatory responsibilities.
  • Collaborate closely with Group Compliance and other business units on UKGI matters to ensure effectiveness.
  • Assist UKGI teams and senior management in responding to compliance reviews.
  • Provide guidance on business development activities as needed.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Experience
  • Demonstrated experience in a legal and regulatory role, translating regulations into practical business applications.
  • Strong understanding of the general insurance sector in the UK.
  • Proven ability to influence stakeholders at various levels.
  • Meticulous attention to detail.
  • Proactive mindset with the ability to anticipate challenges and prepare accordingly.
  • Competence in business writing and preparing regulatory reports that synthesize diverse information.
  • Professional qualifications in legal, compliance, or risk management are advantageous.
