Salary: £40k-£50k (depending on experience), 4 days per week

Term: Fixed-term contract (9 months, with potential for extension)

The Payments Association is on the lookout for an enthusiastic Editorial Director to spearhead our publishing and membership initiatives, ensuring the delivery of high-quality content that aligns with our members' needs.

This role is pivotal in guiding and overseeing the editorial, policy, projects, and content marketing teams, aiming to enhance member engagement and elevate the association's presence within the industry.

The successful candidate will collaborate closely with the membership and event product teams, alongside senior management.

The Editorial Director will supervise the following team members:

  • Editor
  • Head of Projects
  • Content Marketer
  • Head of Policy
  • Reporter

Our offerings include a premier series of events, an active research and policy agenda aimed at driving meaningful change, and a robust digital media portfolio. Through a comprehensive array of member activities and insights from our independent Advisory Board of leading payments CEOs, we host a variety of digital and in-person events, including our annual PAY360 conference, webinars, podcasts, and training sessions. The Payments Association is dedicated to connecting market leaders and celebrating innovation within the thriving UK payments sector.

Role Overview

We are in search of a dynamic leader who can take charge of The Payments Association's content strategy.

Reporting directly to the CEO, the Editorial Director will be responsible for shaping and executing the content strategy. This includes researching market trends and member sentiment regarding content creation, while working collaboratively across departments to ensure value creation for our members and to amplify our industry voice.

The role entails monitoring industry developments and trends, enabling strategic collaboration with the broader organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Ensure departmental objectives are met and support the effective execution of the content strategy, project working groups, and stakeholder engagement initiatives.
  • Guide and support team members in their content creation and delivery responsibilities.
  • Oversee the production of Payments Intelligence and Payments Review, ensuring alignment with publication goals and performance metrics.
  • Ensure members effectively utilize the content benefits outlined in their membership agreements.
  • Collect and analyze customer insights in partnership with sales and marketing colleagues.
  • Leverage our content and marketing efforts to enhance our visibility and awareness.
  • Maximize member engagement with content to support satisfaction and retention.
  • Lead the editorial strategy, informed by member insights, to deliver valuable business information.
  • Develop the association's voice through content, policy, working groups, and marketing efforts.
  • Manage the editorial advisory board.

Skills, Experience & Personal Attributes

Essential:

  • Strong leadership skills with experience in a corporate, membership, or trade association environment.
  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal abilities.
  • Proficient in research, writing, interviewing, proofreading, and editing, with a keen eye for detail.
  • Extensive experience with written, audio, and visual content.
  • Excellent command of English, both written and spoken.
  • Hands-on experience with MS Office, WordPress, and other publishing platforms.
  • Familiarity with SEO and social media best practices.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking skills.
  • Ability to prioritize and manage multiple tasks effectively.
  • Understanding of government relations and public policy.
  • Experience in social media and public relations.
  • Outstanding time management and organizational skills.

Desirable:

  • Experience in government relations and public policy.
  • Project management experience with working groups, whitepapers, and small events.
  • Familiarity with HubSpot.
  • Experience in chairing and moderating events and webinars.
