Role Overview

As an Assistant Mental Health Support Worker, you will play a vital role in assisting clients with complex support needs and a range of mental health challenges. This position requires a proactive and flexible approach, as you will be working on a rota basis between 7:30 am and 8:30 pm, including weekends and bank holidays.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide support to clients by prompting and assisting them in attending appointments.
  • Encourage their participation in personal development activities such as education, training, employment, or volunteering.
  • Help clients develop practical skills in areas like health management, budgeting, shopping, cooking, housework, laundry, and hygiene.
  • Collaborate with external partners (such as colleges) to maximize opportunities for clients and facilitate their resettlement into the community.
  • Empower clients to achieve their desired outcomes for independent living, including involvement in practical tasks within the service, such as basic maintenance or room decoration.
  • Involve clients in the smooth operation of the service.
  • Contribute to maintaining a welcoming and safe environment by identifying and minimizing potential risks to users, the organization, and property.
  • Provide basic first aid assistance until professional help arrives (full training provided).
  • Maintain client records accurately using relevant systems.
  • Adhere to Health and Safety regulations and all policies and procedures.
  • Attend supervision, appraisals, training sessions, and meetings as directed, which may fall outside your regular working hours.
  • Perform any other reasonable tasks assigned by a member of staff.

Qualifications and Skills

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Proficiency in IT and keyboard skills.
  • Polite and assertive demeanor, with the ability to self-motivate.
  • Passion for working in a client-facing role.
  • Knowledge of the benefits system and tenancy legislation.
  • Genuine interest and concern for mental health, housing, and related issues.
  • Familiarity with voluntary and statutory agencies.
