Position Overview

We are in search of a passionate and skilled Clinical Pharmacist to become a vital part of our state-of-the-art facilities. This pivotal role will empower you as a dedicated and proactive Pharmacist to oversee our Pharmacy services for surgical patients.

Your primary responsibilities will be ward-based, integrating seamlessly into the multi-disciplinary team. You will play a crucial role in enhancing our clinical services within the specialty and will be accountable for guiding the Pharmacy team on surgical wards.

Our organization is preparing for a comprehensive implementation of an advanced electronic patient record system, which includes electronic prescribing and administration, as well as a new pharmacy stock control system.

In addition to our fully automated dispensaries, we are home to one of the NHS Specialist Pharmacy Service medicines advice sites and the Regional Pharmacy Manufacturing Unit, which features a newly established Aseptic facility.

Key Responsibilities

Collaborate effectively with the multidisciplinary team to ensure the optimal and cost-efficient utilization of medications within surgical practice, minimizing drug wastage and managing high-cost medications appropriately.

Deliver an advanced clinical pharmacy service to surgical patients, adhering to pharmacy Key Performance Indicators and established clinical standards.

Provide continuous clinical support and guidance to pharmacy colleagues, contributing to the clinical pharmacy service within the surgical domain.

Take an active role in mentoring and coaching junior medical staff regarding safe prescribing practices, medication reconciliation, and the electronic discharge process.

Enhance clinical pharmacy contributions to Surgical Services and provide leadership within this specialty.

Work in partnership with the Lead Clinical Pharmacist for Surgery at the associated site, offering mutual support and ensuring a consistent cross-site service.

Qualifications

Essential

  • Master's Degree in Pharmacy or equivalent with Pre-registration training
  • Registered with the General Pharmaceutical Council (GPhC)
  • Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy Practice or equivalent

Experience

Essential

  • Extensive experience in a hospital setting, including Clinical Pharmacy practice
  • Proven experience in multi-disciplinary collaboration
  • Experience in managing high-risk medications
  • Background in educating and training staff

Desirable

  • Experience working with surgical patients

Knowledge

Essential

  • Proficient in Medicines Management
  • Clinical knowledge relevant to surgical patients gained through training and experience
  • Comprehensive clinical knowledge across various areas and practical skills

Desirable

  • Understanding of issues related to the pre-admission process
  • Basic knowledge of clinical considerations in theatre practice
